Frequently asked questions
A few things people usually want to know before they hit the road.
Can my car tow a Mini Camper?
Both campers are designed to be lightweight and can be towed by many sedans, larger sedans, SUVs and 4x4s. No electric brake controller is required. Always check your vehicle manufacturer's towing capacity and towbar requirements before booking.
Can I camp off-grid?
Yes. Both campers have solar power, a 12V battery, USB charging and a 47L fridge, so you can stay away from powered sites for a few days. This is for simple off-grid camping, not 4WD-only access.
Is there a bike rack?
The optional two-bike rack is available with Clementine only. It is a $20 per booking add-on and the bikes themselves are not included.
I've never towed a caravan before. Is it difficult?
That's exactly why Derek does a thorough handover at pickup. He talks you through attaching, detaching, setup and the camper's features before you leave. Many of our hirers are first-time caravaners.
What happens at pickup?
Pickup is in Bentleigh. Derek will meet you and walk you through the camper, including setup and how everything works. Allow around 10 minutes for the handover.
How many people can sleep in the setup?
Two people sleep in the main camper. The enclosed annexe is your sheltered outdoor living space, with table and chairs, and a separate two-person tent connects to the annexe for additional sleeping. This gives you a practical setup for up to four people.
What should I bring?
Bring your clothes, food and bedding/linen. The campers are supplied with the cooking and dining equipment, basic pantry, fridge, solar power and outdoor living setup.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes. The current Camplify listings are pet friendly. Check the listing before booking for the latest conditions.
Can I take the camper off-road?
No. The campers are not designed for off-road or beach driving. Unsealed roads may be possible with prior approval.
How old do I need to be to hire?
Camplify's current listing requires hirers to be 25 years or older.

HOW IT STARTED
The man in the shed with a plan in his head
Mini Campers is a small, hands-on business. Derek designs and builds lightweight teardrop campers in his Bentleigh workshop, with a focus on keeping things simple, practical and genuinely enjoyable to use.
What started with building campers has grown into a little fleet of hire campers and a growing collection of adventures. We make them light enough to tow easily, comfortable enough to enjoy and simple enough to get you on the road without the fuss.
